Our team all met as participants in the Off-Piste 2019 VR Lab, a crossover lab for those fascinated with VR. Here the urgent climate crisis made us reinvent the known tale. Theodore Kittelsen, a Norwegian painter was the first to give images to the folk tale creatures, such as the Water Sprite, Nøkken, but also trolls and other shapeshifters. The scary story of the luring Nøkk was once told to prevent children from drowning.
Our prototype idea was to explore the painting  qualities of Theodor Kittelsen “Nøkken”as well as from his other works of art. The pitch was short and simple. How would the world look through the eyes of this mythological creature?  Nøkken's perspective being the guardian of nature.  You experience and interact with this dark yet magical world as a threat from above, suddenly sets your domain in danger.
Our prototype engaged VR & film producer Kristian Mosvold, Substans Film. Just before lockdown our team was invited to showcase the Prototype at CEFIMA, Artistic Research Lab. Here sparking interest and securing development funding. From there on we steadily got production funding. Last year we hit the tech wall of our skills, then raised funds to pair up with Logic Interactive. Focusing on developing  a compelling narrative based on Kittelsens unique exquisite art.
A  homage to Kittelsen's unique insight and empathy for the mythological forces of nature.
